Data Engineer

Raft is a customer-obsessed technology company focused on distributed data systems, platforms at scale, and complex application development for federal and public-sector clients. The Data Engineer will build and deploy next-generation data platforms, backend services, and integrations to support mission-critical government needs while collaborating with technical subject matter experts.

Responsibilities

Data Engineers on our Distributed Systems team are focused on building data platforms that make it easy for different types of user personas to access data from a central control plane

This includes building backend services, connecting OSS projects in a repeatable and performant way, and extending feature sets

As the Staff Data Engineer you will be working closely with Technical SMEs on the government stakeholders to build, configure, and deploy the next generation of data platform for mission-critical needs

Preferred

Internship or coursework experience with data processing or ETL concepts

Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Past use of SQL skills and understanding of database concepts

Experience with version control (Git) and basic DevOps practices

Previous internship or project work involving data analysis or engineering

Interest in or exposure to open source technologies

Qualifications

This is a U.S. based position. All of the programs we support require U.S. citizenship to be eligible for employment

All work must be conducted within the continental U.S

2+ years of backend development experience with at least one language like Java, Go, or Python

Basic understanding of or exposure to data streaming concepts (Kafka experience preferred but not required)

Willingness to learn about government datasets and data transformation processes

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex problems into smaller tasks

Interest in staying current with data engineering trends and technologies

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Active Secret security clearance with ability to obtain and maintain TS SCI

Onsite at Hickam AFB, HI

May require up to 25% travel
