Job description

Fuse Energy is an energy startup developing integrated generation, hardware, grid infrastructure, power trading, and distributed energy systems. The Embedded Software Engineer will design, build, and scale connected hardware systems, focusing on embedded connectivity, secure device communications, firmware updates, telemetry, and reliable fleet deployment.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain connectivity across Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Thread, Zigbee and BLE

Build and optimise secure, reliable device messaging using protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, HTTP or WebSockets, and support device time synchronisation (NTP/PTP)

Contribute to secure boot flows, key and certificate provisioning, and hardware-backed device identity using TPMs or secure elements

Build and maintain signed firmware update pipelines, including OTA update and rollback, and support security best practices across the device lifecycle

Integrate devices with cloud IoT platforms and backend services, and improve telemetry, health monitoring and observability for deployed devices

Support reliable field operation, debugging fleet issues and improving resilience

Support testing and validation for safety, EMC, radio and related requirements, and help prepare test plans and certification artefacts

Work closely with firmware, hardware, power electronics, mechanical and software teams, contributing to design reviews, documentation and interface specifications

Preferred

low-power wireless (Thread, Zigbee, BLE); cloud IoT services on AWS, Azure or GCP; secure boot, TPMs, secure elements or hardware attestation; EMC/RF testing, antenna bring-up or factory test; awareness of standards such as IEC 62443, ETSI EN 303 645, ISO 27001 or GDPR; industrial, energy or other distributed device deployments
