Backend Developer

Landlord Tech, doing business as OurPetPolicy, provides a compliance-focused platform for property managers to track animals, maintain records, and comply with Fair Housing laws. The Backend Developer will develop and maintain backend systems, APIs, integrations, and databases while improving platform performance, reliability, and scalability. The role also involves troubleshooting issues and collaborating with engineering, product, and operations teams.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain backend systems and services using Java and Python

Develop and maintain REST APIs, integrations, and internal services

Support PostgreSQL database development and performance optimization

Integrate third-party APIs and external platforms

Collaborate with developers, product teams, and operations staff on technical initiatives

Troubleshoot production issues and support system reliability and scalability

Participate in code reviews and follow established development standards and workflows

Help improve internal tools, workflows, and engineering processes

Accurately document technical processes and development work

Experience with Python backend development

Experience with Spring Boot or FastAPI

Familiarity with Node.js or Express

Exposure to AWS or cloud-based infrastructure

Experience integrating third-party platforms or payment systems such as Stripe

Qualifications

4–6+ years of backend development experience

Experience with Java backend development

Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL

Familiarity with REST APIs and backend integration patterns

Understanding of Git workflows, Unix-based environments, and command-line tools

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Strong verbal and written communication skills

High attention to detail and ability to follow established processes and standards

Experience with Python backend development

Experience with Spring Boot or FastAPI

Familiarity with Node.js or Express

Exposure to AWS or cloud-based infrastructure
