#Backend Software Engineer

The company is seeking an entry-level Backend Software Engineer to build and maintain cloud services, microservices, APIs, and event pipelines for device management and IoT security. The role involves coding, testing, debugging, monitoring, and collaborating with product, QA, and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Work with a group of talented engineers to build and maintain backend microservices for the Compute Sentra SaaS platform

Implement REST APIs, event listeners, and data models under the guidance of senior engineers

Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews to learn and uphold team standards

Be exposed to modern AI-assisted software development, using AI tools to accelerate coding, testing, and debugging as part of our everyday engineering workflow

Help troubleshoot, debug, and monitor services running in our cloud environment

Collaborate with cross-functional teammates — product, QA, and other engineers — to deliver features end to end

Preferred

Exposure to server-side frameworks such as Spring / Spring Boot (Java) or equivalents (Flask, FastAPI, .NET)

Understanding of REST API design and HTTP fundamentals

Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows

Basic understanding of microservices architecture

Any exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

Excellent problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn

Any exposure to working with AI coding assistants such as Claude or Codex

Coursework or projects involving distributed systems, messaging (Kafka), or event-driven design

Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational databases

Exposure to containers and Kubernetes (Docker, k8s)

Awareness of Clean Code, SOLID, and sound software engineering practices

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field

B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)

Foundational programming experience in an object-oriented language (Java, Kotlin, C#, or similar), through coursework, internships, or personal projects

Familiarity with relational databases and SQL fundamentals

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Fluent English

Must be able to work on-site in San Diego, CA
